Eyelids

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a type of cosmetic surgery procedure that remedies sagging, droopy eyelids and bags under the eyes. These undesirable conditions develop due to age, subsequent slackness of eyelid skin and muscle, and the introduction of fat to the eye area. Eyelid sagging and skin bulging is not singular to aged persons--certain individuals may be genetically predisposed to fat pouches at an early age.

During blepharoplasty surgery, excess skin around the eyes is excised with a surgical tool or treated with a laser. Fat can simultaneously be extracted; however, cosmetic surgeons must be careful to leave a certain amount of fat so as not to unnaturally hollow out the eye area or leave the patient unable to fully close the eyes.
